Kincsem was the result of a unique 19th century Anglo-Hungarian heritage, and the Hyper GT comes from similar roots. The vision is from Hungary, the country that gave the world the “Hungarian Martians” who revolutionised scientific thought in the 1930s, and the technology comes from the UK, the home of Formula 1TM.

The powertrain is provided by McLaren Applied and Ricardo, companies synonymous with technology leadership, and the design is by Ian Callum, one of the most admired car designers in the world.

Technology
The powertrain will combine the instant torque and acceleration of an e-motor with the evocative high-revolution scream of a hydrogen internal combustion engine to create the ultimate driving experience.
The E-Motor and Inverter is designed and made by McLaren Applied and sets new standards in terms of size, weight and efficiency, thanks to the use of revolutionary Silicon Carbide technology.
Hydrogen Engine
The hydrogen-burning engine comes from Ricardo. While it has long been possible to run a modified petrol engine on hydrogen, it has always entailed a big reduction in power, because hydrogen gas is so much more diffuse than petrol when injected into the cylinder. Using the latest direct injection technology, Ricardo has solved this problem, enabling the hydrogen engine to be equal to a petrol engine – but with no carbon emissions. The final piece of technology is the most revolutionary of all. The second problem with hydrogen is storage – again being so diffuse, it is normally pressurised to 350 or 700 bar (700 times atmospheric pressure) in carbon-fibre tanks that have to be refilled at stations costing many millions of dollars. Kincsem is the first car in the world to use Plasma Kinetics’ solution which stores hydrogen at atmospheric pressure. It uses nanophotonic material which absorbs hydrogen, with the hydrogen being released by application of a beam of light. An analogy would be a CD player – the music is stored on the CD and “released” by the laser. Refuelling the car does not require handling high-pressure hydrogen gas at a dedicated filling station (of which there are very few anywhere in the world). Instead, a simple Plasma Kinetics container is swapped out – again like changing a CD. These containers could be sold anywhere – they are not flammable and require no special handling. The containers can be changed in a couple of minutes (and the engine does not even have to switched off). They can be handed to a retailer for recharging – which itself takes less than 30 minutes.
the kincsem legacy – the flow
Kincsem was legendary for many reasons apart from her incredible record of wins. At the time people marvelled at her strange pre-race rituals, such as insisting on being with a cat called Nightingale before each race, and only drinking water from certain wells.
Today psychologists would liken her behaviour to “The Flow”, sometimes called The Zone, where athletes manage to focus entirely on the task, and where the faster they perform, the more relaxed they become.
Kincsem, thanks to its fundamental design and its personal engineering, is designed to enable their owners reach The Flow. The guiding principle is that the owner must feel a near-telepathic relationship with the car, and they must feel at one with the controls in a way no other car can match.
Appropriately, the original concept of The Flow was developed by Hungarian psychologist, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, who later moved to the English-speaking world. Who better to explain the legend of the Anglo-Hungarian Kincsem?
